UK songwriter Alexander Joseph presents a thoughtful collection of songs on his EP Heading Home, a release that leans into alternative folk while focusing strongly on storytelling. The five–track record explores life’s journeys, both physical and emotional, with lyrics that reflect faith, perseverance, and the search for purpose. Joseph’s songwriting feels personal and sincere, built around simple but effective folk arrangements that allow the messages within each song to come through clearly.

One of the EP’s most moving lyrical moments comes in the title track, where Joseph captures the spiritual heart of the record with the line: “Take my hand, when you walk with me to the promised land so I’m not alone. And reveal your plans for my destiny, now I know that I’m heading home.” The lyric beautifully reflects the EP’s central theme of guidance, faith, and the comfort of knowing that life’s journey is leading somewhere meaningful. The song captures the idea that while the road may be uncertain, support often appears in unexpected ways to help keep us moving forward. In “St. David (Alternate Version)”, Joseph captures the reflective atmosphere of pilgrimage and spiritual calling. One particularly striking moment arrives when he sings, “St. David you’ve waited so patiently, St. David let’s face it, you’re coming for me,” a line that beautifully conveys the sense of being drawn toward a place. Inspired by Joseph’s pilgrimage to the Welsh coastal city of St Davids. The track carries a peaceful atmosphere that mirrors the reflective nature of travel and spiritual discovery.

In “Still Small Voice (Alternate Version)”, Joseph delivers a reflective and intimate moment with the lines, “The people we long to be cast shadows on you and me. So step out and make your choice and follow the still small voice,” urging listeners to embrace self-discovery and listen to the subtle guidance that shapes our path through life. “Restless War” shifts the mood slightly, addressing conflict both in the wider world and within ourselves. Rather than sounding heavy, the song comes across as a thoughtful reflection on the need for peace and understanding.

The EP closes with “Feels Like Home,” Joseph closes the EP with a tender and intimate moment, singing, “It’s just you and me, in a place beside the sea, looking out so fun, feels like home,” capturing the warmth and comfort of love and belonging that resonates throughout the track. Ending the project on this note brings a sense of comfort and resolution. Overall, Heading Home shows Alexander Joseph’s commitment to writing honest songs that combine folk influences with uplifting themes about faith, resilience, and finding your place in the world.
