The EP opens with a striking reflection on a period in Mason’s life when the antidepressant Zoloft affected his ability to experience the emotional richness of autumn, a season that holds profound significance for him. That introspective foundation extends into I Need Freedom, where themes of inner conflict and perseverance continue to develop with sincerity and purpose. The closing piece, Me And I, described by Mason as his personal favourite, provides a thoughtful conclusion that balances vulnerability with resilience, completing a cohesive narrative of personal growth.
The recording benefits from the expertise of an accomplished creative team. Grammy-nominated producer and mastering engineer David E Beats handled the mixing and mastering while contributing rhythm guitar and bass to the second track, bringing warmth and clarity to the production. Rose Hill Drive drummer Nate Barnes adds measured rhythmic support on the second and third songs, while Little Big Town bassist John Thomasson enriches the closing track with refined precision. Their contributions enhance the recordings without overshadowing Mason’s songwriting.
Having built an extensive catalogue of more than 200 demo recordings since 2021, Mason continues to establish himself as a versatile songwriter whose work has attracted recognition from respected publications including Rolling Stone En Español, SPIN Magazine, The Big Takeover, and others.
