MOON AND ARIES – IN THE SILENCE OF THE HILLS

GENRE; Singer-Songwriter Band/ Contemporary Soul

RELEASE DATE; 02 October, 2026

RATING; 4/5

The song “In the Silence of the Hills” presents Moon and Aries with space as an essential element of its structure. It is the fourth track to be released from the upcoming “Prairie Souls” EP and is a cinematic piece without drums which focuses on moving away from the noise of everyday life and on rediscovering nature, connection, and stillness. The composition does not rely on a clear beat; rather, it evolves through the use of the piano, analog synth textures, organic instruments, and a close vocal presence.

The piece started with the piano and then moved on to use textures from analog synths, thus laying the electronic element of the song into place without it ending up sounding overwhelming. Jordana Moon then delivers her warm and vulnerable vocal performance, which brings the song’s lyrics into clear focus. Nearby to her voice, the arrangement slowly incorporates cello, atmospheric guitar, and saxophone. Zara Hudson-Kozdoj plays the cello, Peter J. Mitchell adds the guitar, and Hanna Marchand provides the saxophone, resulting in a richly layered sound that stays open and uncluttered.

The production shows a deliberate restraint. Since there are no drums, it does not rely on the usual impact of percussion and instead allows the various elements to interact with one another. The cello contributes another organic aspect, while the guitar and saxophone enhance the atmospheric quality of the piece. In combination with the piano and the analog synth keys, they establish a link between electronic sounds and live instruments. The vocal stays at the centre without taking over the arrangement.

The way the song is presented matches the main idea that there is no need to rush. “In the Silence of the Hills” promotes a more deliberate form of listening, letting its open spaces and natural textures develop slowly. The single was mixed and mastered by Chris Kung and Francois Rocheleau, and it embodies the “Prairie Souls” section as described by Moon and Aries, which involves moving closer to the earth through the use of organic instruments, spacious arrangements, and emotional restraint. It is a thoughtful, cinematic work centred on atmosphere, stillness, and human connection.
