Proud of My Postcode investigates Britain via electronic music and observational songwriting, combining history, culture and ordinary experiences in a project that has a strong sense of place. Instead of focusing mainly on well-known landmarks or significant historical events, the album directs its attention to the smaller details which contribute to British identity. This method gives the work a personal and reflective character, enabling the music to examine the nature of the country by looking at the connection between its past and present.

The album’s investigation of British life is based on electronic production, which establishes a steady musical background for its diverse range of topics. Alongside references to the past are comments on current society, enabling the work to shift between different times and points of view. Rather than treating these various subjects as separate ideas, the songwriting links them together by focusing on the places, experiences and cultural features that influence everyday life. As a result, the album has a well-defined thematic focus while at the same time not restricting its subject matter to just one part of British identity.

A great deal of importance is attached to ordinary experiences as part of the album’s overall concept. The same attention is given to everyday routines and the familiar features of British culture as is given to the nation’s historical heritage, showing a respect for the ordinary in the face of broader political and economic difficulties. This approach causes the project to move away from usual expressions of admiration and instead emphasizes observation and personal reflection. The way in which the album combines these contrasting elements enables it to examine how affection for a place can arise from both its significant history and from its apparently unimpressive daily experiences.

Proud of My Postcode offers a personal way of looking at Britain by using a completely electronic method of writing songs. Throughout the project there is a focus on historical background, current-day life and ordinary situations, which acts as a unifying element, while the observational point of view means that it does not aim to cover all the different aspects of the country. The reason for the album’s appeal is this blend of cultural interest and ordinary details, since it paints a musical picture that is less concerned with bold statements and more focused on the experiences which give a place its special character.
