⭐️⭐️⭐️

I listened to Tony Frissore’s new instrumental “Self Soothe,” and the best way I can describe it is that it feels like something you’d play when you just want your brain to shut up for a few minutes. It’s all beat and atmosphere; no singing, no vocals trying to grab your attention. It starts off pretty soft, kind of like someone slowly dimming the lights in a room, and you just settle into it without thinking about it too much. The track runs at a slow pace, around 80 BPM, and it actually lines up with breathing in a weirdly natural way. You don’t have to try to sync your breath with it; it just sort of happens. The drums sit way back, nothing sharp or pushy, and the rest of the sound is these warm pads and airy echoes floating around. There’s a tiny bit of fuzz in the background, almost like an old tape deck, which makes the whole thing feel more human than digital.

What’s interesting is knowing Tony’s background ; jazz, funk, jam sessions, clubs, all this busy, energetic stuff he’s been part of. And then he puts out something like this, which is basically the opposite. It feels like he intentionally stepped away from all the loudness and made something meant for breathing room instead of movement.

After listening a few times, I realized it’s not really the kind of instrumental track you “analyze.” It’s one of those songs you put on while stretching, or when you’re trying to calm down after a long day, or even while you’re just staring at the ceiling because your head is too full. It doesn’t build up or drop or surprise you. It just sits there, steady and gentle, and gives you a minute to reset. And honestly, that’s what makes it work.
