THE SHRUBS – LET US IN

GENRE; Dream Pop( Guitar Dreamy Mellow Vibes)/ Dream Pop( Guitar Washed-out)

RATING; 3.9/5

There’s a certain feeling you get when a song doesn’t try too hard to impress you and “Let Us In” by The Shrubs lives right in that space. It doesn’t arrive with a bang or a dramatic hook; instead, it pulls you in slowly, almost quietly, until you realize you’re fully inside its world. The track has this strange sense of familiarity, like something you’ve heard before in another life, yet it never feels predictable. That tension between comfort and curiosity is what makes the first listen so engaging.

A big part of that comes from how the song was made. You can actually hear the analog process in it—the slight warble, the softness around the edges, the way everything feels just a little worn in. It’s not polished in the typical modern sense, and that’s exactly the point. The Shrubs lean into their old tape machines and vintage gear, and instead of cleaning things up, they let those imperfections breathe. The result is a dreamy, almost “fog-on-the-glass” kind of sound that fits the band’s indie/psych identity without feeling forced.

What really stays with you, though, is the meaning behind it. The lyrics touch on mental health and how quickly people are judged or pushed aside when they don’t fit neatly into what society expects. There’s a clear sense that this comes from real observation, not just an abstract idea. It doesn’t lecture, but it does make you pause and think about how often people are reduced to labels instead of being understood. That message feels especially relevant, even if it’s delivered in a subtle, almost understated way.

For a first single of the year, “Let Us In” feels like a confident step forward. The Shrubs aren’t trying to reinvent themselves, they’re just sharpening what they already do well. It’s the kind of track that grows on you without announcing it, and before long, you find yourself going back to it without really knowing why.
