RATING; 4.2/5
Santa Claws’ Sands of Time combines the vigorous energy of alternative rock, the melodic approach of Britpop, and a contemplative atmosphere in an eight-track album. It is based on thick guitars, detailed arrangements, and rich analogue sounds, striking a balance between intense rock expression and periods of intimacy and sadness. The way the music is directed is inspired by 1990s rock yet places a strong focus on melody, producing a sound that is grounded in the genre’s traditions without simply depending on nostalgia.
A striking feature of the record is the fact that it is guitar-driven, a quality enhanced by the use of three guitars. This method allows for a greater sense of depth, more contrasting textures and variations in intensity across the album. Instead of relying solely on raw power, Sands of Time blends its heavier sounds with carefully shaped melodic sections. The way these different elements interact gives the album a feeling of dimension, enabling its alternative-rock roots and Britpop influences to coexist in a natural way.

Production also contributes a great deal to the album’s character. Since the recordings were made independently and the mixing done at the studio itself, the material is given an analogue-tape mastering by Christophe Chavanon at Studio Kerwax. This method matches the project’s focus on warmth, an organic quality, and the kind of energy found in live rock performances. Complex arrangements are combined with a more raw sound, achieving a balance between careful attention to detail and the directness that is normally expected in guitar-driven indie rock. The outcome shows a definite dedication to craftsmanship rather than to excessive polishing.
Sands of Time demonstrates a unified approach to alternative rock and Britpop, combining melodic precision, guitar-driven arrangements, and atmospheric contrasts. Links with The Beatles’ melodic skill, the creative tension found in Radiohead, and the confident style of Oasis help to explain the album’s musical direction. Nevertheless, its distinct character comes from the way these influences come together in its own sound. Santa Claws is a well-thought-out and mature collection that honours the lasting appeal of independent rock and at the same time allows room for both intensity and introspection.
