Mahta’s debut EP Moonlike feels less like an introduction and more like a quiet revelation. Rooted in themes of identity, trust, and emotional evolution, the four-track project unfolds with intention and restraint. There’s a sense that every note has been carefully placed, every lyric thoughtfully lived in. Rather than chasing grand statements, Mahta leans into subtlety, crafting a body of work that invites listeners to sit with uncertainty and slowly unpack what it means to grow into oneself.

The opening track, “Thinking of You,” sets the tone with striking intimacy. Built on atmospheric layers and soft, reflective vocals, Mahta captures the quiet exhaustion of emotional fixation with the repeated line, “I’ve been waking up, thinking of you. Going to bed, thinking of you. I don’t wanna live like this, and I don’t wanna live like that,” a moment that distills the push and pull between longing and the desire to break free. That calm introspection is quickly contrasted by “I Don’t Mind,” where sharper guitars and a more assertive energy cut through the haze. It’s here that Mahta explores tension between perception and reality, between what we accept and what we suppress, giving the EP one of its most dynamic moments.

“Life Will Catch You” expands the emotional and sonic landscape, unfolding slowly into a cinematic swell that rewards patience. It carries a quiet sense of reassurance, as if surrendering to time rather than fighting it. By the time “Maybe We’re Meant to Be” arrives, the EP feels grounded yet transformed. Beginning delicately, the track gradually blooms into layered harmonies, its folk-leaning warmth creating a sense of closure that feels earned rather than imposed.

What makes Moonlike resonate is its balance between vulnerability and control. Mahta’s blend of dream pop, alternative rock, and folk never feels forced; instead, it mirrors the emotional shifts within the songs themselves. For a debut, this is remarkably cohesive and self-assured work, one that doesn’t just introduce an artist but quietly establishes a voice worth returning to.
