Bob Dylan is reaching deep into his vault for his next archival project. His upcoming release, Through the Open Window: The Bootleg Series Vol. 18, traces his earliest days—beginning with recordings from his teenage years in Minnesota and moving through his formative period in New York’s Greenwich Village in the early 1960s. The set spans 1956 to 1963 and arrives October 31. One highlight is “Rocks and Gravel (Solid Road),” cut during the April 1962 sessions for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.
The final two discs feature Dylan’s celebrated Carnegie Hall performance from October 26, 1963, now available in full for the first time. All of the recordings included in this package are previously unreleased.
Through the Open Window will be issued digitally, as well as in 8xCD, 2xCD, and 4xLP formats. The physical versions come with a 125-page essay penned by historian Sean Wilentz. This marks Dylan’s first new installment in the Bootleg Series in over two years, following Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996–1997): The Bootleg Series Vol. 17.
