The Fiery Furnaces Announce Blueberry Boat Vinyl Reissue, Share New Song: Listen

The Fiery Furnaces Unearth Lost Track for Blueberry Boat Reissue

Indie art-rock duo The Fiery Furnaces are revisiting their landmark 2004 release Blueberry Boat with a limited-edition vinyl reissue, arriving October 10 through Everything Nice. Alongside the re-release, fans are being treated to a long-lost gem: “Far Away,” a track recorded back in 2003 but never officially issued until now.

According to a press statement, Matthew Friedberger wrote “Far Away” at his sister Eleanor’s suggestion for a Mercury Lounge performance in late 2003. “I liked the idea of writing a special song for each show, but that was the only time we ever did it,” Matthew recalled. While the piece didn’t make it onto Blueberry Boat, its DNA lived on—eventually evolving into “Waiting to Know You,” which appeared on the band’s 2006 record Bitter Tea.

The reissue itself is a collector’s item: only 500 hand-numbered copies will be pressed, featuring refreshed artwork and a deluxe gatefold tip-on sleeve. For longtime fans, it’s a rare chance to own a piece of the band’s experimental history in a new form.

To celebrate the release, The Fiery Furnaces will hit the road this fall, beginning October 10 in Kingston, New York. Their itinerary includes stops at Pitchfork Festival London and Le Guess Who? in the Netherlands, with additional shows to follow. Full tour details are available below.
