“Man Of The Universe” by Zachary Mason is a playful exploration of traditional science-fiction themes, combining Space Rock with elements of Psychedelic Rock and Classic Rock. The song portrays an extraordinary traveller who journeys through the universe in a powerful spaceship, meeting aliens and space pirates, and at the same time becomes the admired figure of female fans. The idea is based on the world of old Sci-Fi magazines and Pulp Science Fiction, giving the single a clear retro-futuristic character.

The release is given a further important dimension thanks to the involvement of the well-known UK producer Stuart Epps, who was approached after having heard three of Mason’s demos in June 2026, leading to “Man Of The Universe” being chosen for the collaboration. In addition to his work as a producer, Epps provides the drums, the bass, the organ and backing vocals, bringing to the recording many decades of studio experience. The fact that he has worked with artists such as Elton John, Oasis, George Harrison and Led Zeppelin means that his participation is a significant aspect of this release.

The fact that Mason has chosen this particular subject also links ‘Man Of The Universe’ with his earlier Sci-Fi EP, ‘5…4…3…2…1…’, thus giving the single a well-defined position within his interest in futuristic themes. Instead of treating the topic in a serious manner, the song accepts its fantastical nature and portrays its spacefaring protagonist as a entertaining character. This sense of fun is at the heart of the track’s character and enables the science-fiction narrative to stay imaginative and accessible.

“Man Of The Universe” is a special collaboration involving an up-and-coming artist from Guildford and a well-known person in the British music recording industry. The choice Mason made to send one of his three demos to Epps led to a production that incorporates elements of Space Rock, psychedelic effects, and classic rock styles. The final single provides listeners with a fun journey into a fictional universe and at the same time highlights a major creative phase in Mason’s evolving body of work.
