Peter Hägerstrand’s Sjögräs Vol. 2 is the kind of record that quietly settles into your mind before you even realize its grip. Across four beautifully crafted tracks, Hägerstrand blends acoustic intimacy with a subtle rock pulse, creating songs that feel timeless from the very first listen. There is something deeply cinematic in the way the EP unfolds, which is hardly surprising considering Hägerstrand’s long history as a film and theatre composer. Every arrangement feels purposeful, carrying emotion far beyond the boundaries of language.
The EP moves effortlessly between moods and textures. “Egen lägenhet” drifts with a wistful samba rhythm that feels both warm and melancholic, while “Ring min mamma” introduces mariachi-inspired flourishes that give the song an aching sense of longing. “Ett litet liv,” featuring the haunting vocals of Ella Grüssner, stands out as one of the release’s emotional centerpieces. Its meditation on the final moments of a fading rock icon is subtle yet devastating. Meanwhile, “I lagens namn” arrives as a powerful protest anthem, fueled by frustration at the chaos and arrogance shaping the modern world.
What makes Sjögräs Vol. 2 so compelling is Hägerstrand’s ability to merge personal identity with universal feeling. Drawing from his Åland-Karelian roots, he explores themes of memory, origin, and belonging without ever sounding overly sentimental. Instead, the songs breathe with authenticity and lived experience. You can hear traces of folk, Nordic storytelling, cinematic pop, and classic rock woven seamlessly together into a sound that feels entirely his own.

Hägerstrand has spent decades shaping music in different forms, from sharing stages with legendary acts like Nirvana to composing award-recognized film scores. Yet Sjögräs Vol. 2 may be among his most personal works to date. It is immersive, poetic and emotionally fearless, an EP that invites listeners not just to hear the music, but to step inside it.
