‘We Are To Blame’ is presented by Omega Origin in a style that combines the intense energy of modern metal with a strong sense of melody. The Swedish group takes in a variety of influences, from cinematic pop ballads to melodic death metal, which allows both softer atmospheres and heavier sections to be included on the album. Progressive, electronic, and symphonic elements also contribute to expanding the album’s range, while the use of clean vocals, growls and screams adds another level of contrast. The outcome is a record that continually shifts between different textures without giving up its melodic basis.
A major characteristic of the album is the atmosphere it creates. The production endows the record with a sense of space so that the heavier riffs can be heard alongside the more extensive sections. Rather than replacing the metal base, the electronic and symphonic elements introduce a further dimension, and the strong choruses give the material a clear and easy-to-remember quality. It is because of this blend that “Omega Origin” has a modern feel yet still maintains the aggression normal for its genre.
The album also shows that a careful collaborative method was used in its creation, most of the songs coming from ideas of Johan Karlsson, whereas “She Is Me” was written by Alice Hartvig, the material then being collectively shaped by the band. Karlsson was in charge of producing the record and took on the mixing as well as Sebastian “Seppo” Lindgren, the drummer, who also did the mastering. The recordings were made at JSK Audio, KLANG Studio, Svefi and at the band’s own studios, thus combining several stages of the album’s production process.
The three singles from the album ‘Poison’, ‘Alone’ and ‘Life Lost Love’-offer a glimpse into the world of ‘Omega Origin’, each one being issued with a music video. Together, they make up a more extensive album which builds on the band’s earlier ‘Altar’ EP and the melodic and heavy style that was established there. ‘Omega Origin’ provides We Are To Blame with a solid basis for their developing alternative melodic metal image due to the combination of contrasting vocal styles, atmospheric production, progressive elements and big choruses.
